It’s ‘America’s Moment’ to Create Jobs Through a Clean Energy Transition

Our team is proud to have launched a new cable TV ad campaign for Evergreen Action to promote the Clean Energy Payment Plan to policymakers and to urge Americans to contact their Congressional representatives in support of the Plan.

Recognizing that the success of the Clean Energy Payment Plan would require support from all corners of the United States, we decided to use this ad as an opportunity to show why the initiative was earning bipartisan approval among Democrats and Republicans, in rural and urban areas alike.

Two Degrees knows how important it is to communicate the necessity for urgent national climate action – but we also recognize the ongoing political debate over this pressing issue . The proportion of Americans that acknowledge the existence of climate change has steadily risen over the years, reaching 73 percent by 2020, but only 45 percent of conservative Republicans agree that climate change is a real phenomenon.

Rather than disengaging these Americans, we chose another route.

We strategically decided not to center our narrative on the environmental arguments for the Clean Energy Payment Plan – how it will shift our electricity generation away from fossil fuels and towards at least 80 percent clean energy sources by 2030, for instance. Notably, the word “climate” is not mentioned once in the ad.

Instead, we call attention to the enormous economic and job benefits to communities across the country. Our advertisement, ‘America’s Moment,’ zeroes in on the ways in which the CEPP will champion working-class Americans by delivering eight million jobs and growing the economy by $1 trillion.

Through this ad, we’re revealing that a bold transformation of our energy system can happen in tandem with a growing economy and benefits for working-class Americans.

The ad, launched earlier this week, will air on MSNBC and CNN in the coming weeks. Read the Huffington Post’s article on Evergreen’s campaign here, and view the advertisement below.
